Russ Webster (1905-1984)
American

Russ Webster was a Massachusetts painter best known for his harbor scenes and landscapes. He studied in Rockport with Wayne Morrell and Emile A. Gruppe. Gruppe was perhaps his most influential mentor and remained a lifelong friend and traveling partner. One of Webster’s early jobs as an artist was working as a commercial artist at General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Webster traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe, painting the various landscapes. He settled in Cape Ann, where many of his paintings depict the local harbor. Webster’s style is similar to Emile Gruppe, who used bold color and loose brushstrokes. He was a member of the Rockport Art Association.
