Eric Isenburger (1902-1994)

Eric Isenburger was born in 1902 in Germany. He gained in formal art training at the Frankfurt Art School, after which he moved to Berlin. In 1931 Berlin was the epicenter of the European contemporary art world. But, in 1933 with the growth of Fascism in Germany, several articles appeared in the National Socialist press criticizing Isenburgers work.

After being exiled to Nice, France Isenburger was imprisoned there as a German national. He and his wife lived in an internment camp for several months before managing to leave Europe in 1941. Upon arriving in New York Isenburger began teaching painting National Academy of Design.  Isenburger's art is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, among others.
